Air Compressor – Centrifugal

Preventative Maintenance:
Perform normal tour checks and operations.
Change compressor crankcase oil.
Clean air intake filter.
Check air dryer, automatic condensate drains, and air tank for proper operation. Clean condenser coils and cover grills.
Inspect belt alignment and condition. Adjust or replace belts as required.
Check for corrosion and scale on water cooled units.
Clean heat exchange surfaces.
Check accuracy of gauges with calibrated test gauge.
On two stage compressor, check intermediate pressure.
Test relief valves, replace if leaking or the relief range is incorrect. Do not readjust safety relief valves in the field.
Check operation of compressor unloaders, repair or replace if not loading and unloading properly.
Check compressor suction and discharge valves for proper operation. Replace leaking valves.
Check cut in and cut out of compressor pressure controller, re-adjust if necessary for proper air pressure requirements. Do not exceed ASME maximum tank pressure.
Check to make sure belt guard is installed prior to putting air compressor back in service.
No pressure vessel is to have its hand hole or man-hole covers removed unless the vessel is at atmospheric pressure.
Clean surrounding area, record results and findings and report any needed repairs or operational adjustments.
Safety Warnings or Special Precautions:
Obtain and review manufacturer's instructions. Follow manufacturer’s instructions or procedures if different to these instructions or procedures.
Coordinate motor PM on an annual basis.
Tank should be inspected and tested by qualified inspector.
Secure the electrical service.
Closely follow all safety procedures described in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Tools & Materials Required:
Standard and Phillips head screw drivers-various sizes; Pliers-vise grip (2), slipjoint, needlenose, diagonal; cutting pliers, side cutters; Ball peen hammer; Hack saw and spare blades; 3/8' drive socket set and ratchet; Small set of Allen wrenches; Assorted center punches, drift punches, and steel chisel; 12' measuring tape; Crescent wrenches 4" to 8"; Open and box end wrenches ¼" to ¾"; File; Pipe wrenches to 14"; Small level and square; Pocket knife; Flashlights; Grease guns and oilers; Wire brush; Extension cord and inspection lights; Various cleaning tools - brushes, scrapers, etc; Emery cloth.
Belts
Lubricants. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous ingredients and proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
