Frequency:
Semi-Annually
Preventative Maintenance:
Drain housing, bowl, etc.
Remove covers, bowls, housing, etc. to filter/strainer.
Remove filter/strainer. Check gasket and replace if required.
Clean bowl, housing, etc. with approved solvent.
Clean strainer with approved solvent.
Replace filter. Reinstall strainer.
Replace cover bowl and clean any spillage from the outside.
Open inlet valve and vent air.
Check for leaks.
Open outlet valve, remove tags from valves, pumps, burners, or other equipment.
Operate equipment and re-check filter.
Clean surrounding area, record results and findings and report any needed repairs or operational adjustments.
Safety Warnings or Special Precautions:
Obtain and review manufacturer's instructions. Follow manufacturer’s instructions or procedures if different to these instructions or procedures.
Flammable liquids are being handled. Use all applicable safety precautions.
Check with operating personnel before starting work.
Secure and tag pumps, burners, and other necessary equipment.
Shut off and tag inlet and outlet valves.
Wear gloves while cleaning strainer. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools & Materials Required:
Standard and Phillips head screw drivers-various sizes; Pliers-vise grip (2), slipjoint, needlenose, diagonal; cutting pliers, side cutters; Ball peen hammer; Hack saw and spare blades; 3/8' drive socket set and ratchet; Small set of Allen wrenches; Assorted center punches, drift punches, and steel chisel; 12' measuring tape; Crescent wrenches 4" to 8"; Open and box end wrenches ¼" to ¾"; File; Pipe wrenches to 14"; Small level and square; Pocket knife; Flashlights; Grease guns and oilers; Wire brush; Extension cord and inspection lights; Various cleaning tools - brushes, scrapers, etc; Emery cloth.
Pipe wrenches to 24"; Tubing cutters; Flaring tool; Small acetylene outfit; Packing tool kit and packing; ¾" socket set Crescent wrenches to 14"
Gaskets and filters
Solvents approved for use with fuel oils.
Safety goggles.
Gloves.
Consult the MSDS for hazardous ingredients and proper PPE.
